Ùstí is located in the NUTS II region of SEVEROZAPAD, an Objective 1 region. The
regions in the Czech Republic were established in 2000 and are gradually taking
on roles previously carried out by the state. The region was one of the most industrial
areas in the Czech Republic and for many years acted as an energy resource for the
country (with a leading position in coal-mining and electricity production). The
Ùstí Region is heavily affected by past mining activities. Today it faces the problem
of transformation and the challenge of adapting to new conditions. The region's
priority is to complete structural changes and reduce the high level of unemployment
by attracting investment, as well as by using existing resources – the cultural
and natural heritage, promotion of tourism and related activities.
Regional bodies – the Council of the Ùstí Region, first elected in November
2000 and then regularly every 4 years, has 55 members. The executive body is the
Board of Councillors of the Ùstí Region with 11 members; these are elected from
among the members of the regional council, while the region is represented by the
Governor. Public administration within the region is carried out by the Regional
Office.

private bodies in project implementation, development of strategic documents for
sustainable regional development, organisation of events
