PP2 – University of Trento:
eTourism research group (Italy)

The eTourism Research Group was founded in 1997 at the Department of Computer and Management Sciences of the University of Trento. The group is interdisciplinary, with researchers from various fields who have skills in tourism management, marketing, environmental economics, computer science and statistics.
The general objective of the group since its founding in 1997 has been to analyse the alpine tourist sector, with studies regarding both demand and offer in relation to the market.
The areas of research can be grouped into four macro-areas, each of which contains several aspects, including:

> tourist destination management
- analysis and identification of models for the management of tourist destinations in communities which can combine goals relating to competitiveness with the sustainability of the area
- analysis of forms of innovation in terms of offer

> sustainability of tourism
- analysis of sustainable tourism and of “4L tourism”, with a focus on eco-tourism,

> tourist market
- analysis of the profiles of do-it-yourself tourists and customer satisfaction analysis

> ICT and tourism
- analysis of web business models to identify factors in success, focusing on the role of “web communities” for different types of sectors, from the most traditional to intermediate forms in which user involvement is critical for the production and exchange of information or for e-commerce transactions (Web 2.0)
- development of a systematic method for evaluating web site quality based on the 7Loci meta-model (defined by the eTourism group)
- design of action tracking systems for gathering data on tourists' real behaviour to evaluate the economic impact of cultural events

The skills and knowledge developed within the research group have allowed the realisation of important training projects and involvement in the realisation of several projects for tourist development in both mountain, rural and urban areas.

BUDGET: 260,100.00 €, 75% co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund.
